Stanford Summer Term

When to apply

Stanford University campus

Stanford University is recognized as one of the world's leading research and teaching institutions.

Luiss and Stanford University have a cooperation agreement in the field of Economics, Management, Business and Political Science.

Luiss students can take courses, held in English, during the Stanford Summer Term 2020, earning credits for those courses in their Luiss study plan.

The Stanford Summer Term program is a tuition-paying program (students will pay the tuition fee to Stanford, in addition to normal tuition fees at LUISS). 

Luiss students can take courses during the Stanford Summer Term after finishing their second year of courses at Luiss. These students will be registered at Stanford for eight weeks and must pay all fees directly to Stanford.

Details regarding prerequisites for participation, the application procedure, the selection process, deadlines, and further information, are contained in the Call for Applications, which will be published on December 9, 2019.

Who can apply

Students enrolled in a.y. 2019-20 in the 2nd year of the Bachelor's Degree programs in Economics and Business, Economia e Management, Management and Computer Science, Scienze Politiche (all majors).

Pre-requirements

  • Students interested in applying for this program should have the following requirements:
  • A minimum of 38 credits within the extraordinary Winter examination session 2019-20;
  • Students enrolled in the Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Management, Economics and Business and Management and Computer Sciences are required to have passed the exam Mathematics 1;
  • Students enrolled in the Bachelor’s Degrees in Economics and Management or Political Science (track in Italian) are required to present one of the following English certificates : TOEFL iBT  euqla or above 95, IELTS equal or above 7.0 (overall score), CAE (Cambridge English Advanced) with a minimum score of 180, CEFR level C1. The mentioned certificates should not be older than two years from the application deadline (January 31st, 2020).

Luiss students, in order to earn credits for the courses taken at Stanford in the Luiss study plan, will have to comply with Stanford’s rules and conditions regarding credits, attendance, deadlines, etc. Students can choose two or three courses at Stanford. They must reach a total of eight Stanford Units. If they pass these units, they will be reflected in their Luiss study plan as a maximum of eight ECTS of elective courses, as well as additional credits for “Other activities,” in accordance with Luiss regulations.

Student fees

Below are the final costs for the 2019 Stanford Summer International Honors Program:

  • 8 units undergraduate tuition: $9,400
  • 8 units graduate tuition: $11,370

Stanford will apply a reduction of the 20% on the above amount to every student selected. The scholarship will be of $1,880 for undergraduate tuition and $2,274 graduate tuition.

  • Housing for 8 weeks: On-campus residence: TBC
  • Dining: 14 meals per week, TBC
  • Health insurance (Cardinal Care): $1,398
  • Campus health services fee: $224
  • Document fee: $125
  • Technology fee: $74

Costs include:

  • Welcome reception
  • Access to Summer Academic Resource Center (SARC)
  • Academic orientation and ongoing tutoring for many courses
  • Social and cultural activities, including field trips
  • Information about graduate programs at Stanford
  • 24-hour internet access including email accounts at Stanford University
  • Access to Stanford’s world-class athletic facilities 
  • Access to Marguerite Shuttle for transportation around campus

Housing:

  • Double occupancy room accommodations on campus
  • Housing includes bed, desk, wardrobe, and access to laundry facilities

Dining:

  • 14 meals per week for 8 weeks

Costs do not Include:

  • Transportation to or from home country or any other point of departure to or from Stanford University
  • Additional units elected by the student

  • I-20 processing fee paid by student directly to the Summer Session Office during the application process: $150
