LLM Educational Program with Utrecht University

The LLM Educational Program with Utrecht University is a challenging opportunity for Luiss students currently enrolled in the fourth year of the Luiss Single-cycle Master’s Degree program in Law - specific majors.

After its completion, Luiss students will obtain the Master’s degree in Law issued by Luiss University and the LLM issued by Utrecht University - Faculty of Law, Economics and Governance.

Highlights

The program provides a solid and international preparation in the following areas of Law: 

  • Law and Economics
  • European Law with two tracks:
    • European Criminal Law and Human Rights
    • European Law
  • Public International Law with two tracks:
    • Environment and Law of the Sea
    • Human Rights

The program aims at recruiting ambitious and motivated students, offering them the chance to learn in a world-class academic environment in a top-ranking school of law, specialized in the fields of European and comparative law.

The program is a tuition-paying program. In addition to tuition fees at Luiss, tuition payable to Utrecht University for the academic year 2020-21 is €2,143. Please note that tuition does not include living expenses.

Admission

Who can apply

Students enrolled in the fourth year of the Single-cycle Master’s Degree in Law can apply to this program. According to their major, students can apply for:

  • an LL.M. in Law and Economics, open to students majoring in Diritto ed Economia delle Imprese;
  • an LL.M. in European Law - track in European Criminal Justice, open to students majoring in Diritto Penale and EU Law and regulation;
  • an LL.M. in European Law - track in General EU Law, open to students majoring in EU and law regulation;
  • an LL.M. in Public International Law - track in Environment and Law of the Sea, open to students majoring in Diritto Internazionale;
  • an LL.M. in Public International Law - track in Human Rights, open to students majoring in Diritto Internazionale;
  • an LL.M. in European Criminal Justice in a Global Context, open to students majoring in Diritto Penale;
  • an LL.M. in Law and Technology in Europe, open to students majoring in Law and Innovation.

Available slots

Every year a total of 12 students can take part in the program.

How to apply

The call for applications is published on December 9, 2019 and applications can be submitted until January 31, 2020. Candidates are required to submit the following:

  • Application form
  • English language certificate
  • ID card
  • Motivation letter
  • Photo in JPG Format
  • Curriculum vitae / résumé

Requirements

Candidates for this program should meet the following requirements:

  • Grade point average equal to or higher than 27/30
  • Credits: at least 180 ECTS

English language:

  • Cambridge English C1 in Advanced English (CAE) - Minimum score: 176 total, with a minimum of 169 in writing;
  • Cambridge English C2 in Proficiency in English (CPE) - Minimum score: 180 total, with a minimum of 169 in writing;
  • IELTS Academic Module: Minimum score of 6.5 (overall) with at least 6 in writing;
  • TOEFL iBT, minimum score: 93, with at least 24 in reading, 22 in listening, 20 in speaking and 17 in writing.

Selection Procedure

Luiss will selected a short list of candidates based on a non-disputable evaluation of the academic profile and the motivation of the student. Utrecht will then select the candidates form the short list and will communicate results to Luiss in due time in order for students to register to the program.

Additional rules

  • The participation in this program will provide additional points to the Final Grade of the Master’s Degree, according to Luiss rules.
  • Students will be able to participate only if they are in regular time frame and have no pending administrative issues with Luiss.
  • Exams passed at Utrecht will be transferred to the Luiss career according to the study plan. It is not possible to request an official renounce of the grades registration.
