The position:

You will be part of the Directorate General Market Infrastructure and Payments (DG/MIP). Our Directorate has 170 staff who are responsible for the ECB’s activities. In addition, we also work with financial institutions and non-euro area central banks on policy matters relating to regional and global developments in the field of market infrastructure and payments.

We are currently looking for trainees to join sections or teams within one of the Directorate General’s five Divisions: Market Infrastructure Development, Market Infrastructure Management, Market Infrastructure Support, Market Integration, and Oversight.

As a trainee in the project and operational teams you will:

  • contribute to financial market infrastructure project management and operations management, including planning, monitoring and reporting;
  • prepare and contribute to meetings with internal and external stakeholders.

As a trainee in the functional and testing teams you will:

  • contribute to the assessment of market infrastructure software;
  • participate in the development of automated testing tools to enhance the current capability of the testing team;
  • provide support in the planning, tracking and validation of project deliverables.

As a trainee in the data analysis teams you will:

  • contribute to conducting analytical work using exclusive and large transaction-level datasets;
  • participate in the development of tools and maintain data for monitoring purposes;
  • support the ongoing work of the team.

As a trainee in the financials team you will:

  • contribute to running financing, invoicing and accounting operations, and maintain communication with customers, internal departments and national central banks; and
  • either prepare the financial reporting for project envelopes and systems in operations;
  • or prepare management reports and in-depth analysis of settlement volumes and revenues.

As a trainee in the communications team you will:

  • contribute to preparing the communication and outreach material for DG/MIP (for example, press monitoring, preparing presentations for senior management, website and social media communication and updates, preparing videos, organising events, preparing newsletters and articles).

As a trainee in the oversight team you will:

  • contribute to the process of the assessment of TARGET2-Securities (T2S) against the applicable oversight requirements (i.e. CPMI-IOSCO Principles for financial market infrastructures);
  • support the process of preparation of the Eurosystem view/opinion on the authorisation of central securities depositories (CSDs) under the CSD Regulation;
  • assist in conducting ad hoc analysis of the EU regulations related to securities settlement;
  • support the ongoing work of the team.

As a trainee in the fintech team you will:

  • monitor technological developments in the areas of distributed ledger technology (DLT) and artificial intelligence (AI);
  • analyse fintech phenomena such as crypto-assets and the automation of business processes;
  • prepare notes or assessments on issues falling within the team’s remit, in order to brief senior ECB staff and decision-making bodies prior to possible publication.

 Qualifications, experiences and skills:

Essential for all profiles: 

  • a bachelor’s degree (for areas of specialisation, please see the requirements set out below for each profile);
  • basic knowledge of financial market infrastructures (payment systems/central securities depositories/securities settlement services/central counterparties) and/or the role of collateral and collateral management arrangements and/or payment instruments, as well as financial markets/products;
  • an advanced command of English and intermediate knowledge of at least one other official language of the EU.

You are curious and eager to learn, and want to further develop your ability to analyse complex information. You are keen to collaborate with others, pursue team goals and learn from other people’s diverse perspectives. You strive to know and anticipate stakeholder needs, and will signal any need for change and propose alternative solutions.
